I might have missed it, but I never saw on your diagram what I have often heard to describe a group of trees, a stand.

My friend tells me there is a specific word for a group of Oak trees, but can't remember what it is-- any ideas?

well, Abulia, that's potentially Copse, since copsing is a technique employed for selective harvesting of oak trees.
